Building a control room: Stage 1

If anyone knows us, they know that our covid project has been putting all our energy into our recording studio! We’ve been Emily-Rose’s music room into a fully functional home recording studio. It’s been a bit more than a year in the making now and we have made strides including: acoustically treating the live room, learning how to live-stream and making an 8 track reel to reel tape machine feel very at home.

The latest addition is the building of a control and mixing room. It’s quite an involved garage conversion on a musician’s budget, so much of the labour is our own under the patient tutelage of our friend Chris Stone. Chris happens to be both a great violinist and ace house builder. We’ve been learning a great deal – you can see some progress photos below. We should be ready to have both rooms functional in early August. How excitement!

It would be great to have a ‘Peppermint Grove Studios Open Day’ once we are fully functional. What do you think?
